April 27, 1989--"Tifereth Israel Honors Lillian Weiss," San Diego Jewish Times, p. 58:  On Feb. 17, Tifereth Israel Sisterhood presented the "1989 Woman of Valor" award to Lillian Weiss in recognition of her many years of dedication and devotion to the sisterhood and the synagogue. Weiss came to San Diego in 1942 after her marriage to Victor Weiss. They joined Tifereth Israel Synagogue when it was situated at 18th and Market Streets, and she became a charter member of the sisterhood in 1948 at the location at Howard and 30th Streets in North Park.  In 1960 she entered San Diego State University where she received her teaching credentials.  She taught in the San Diego City Schools and in 1966 began a new career as public relations director of Pacific College of Medical and Dental Assistants. She retired in 1984.  Weiss held many executive board positions for Tifereth Israel Sisterhood.  She was program chair for many years, corresponding secretary, Ways and Means chair and then president of the sisterhood in 1970.  She is currently one of three presidents of the presidium of the sisterhood. The presentation was made by Belle Kleinberg, who was last year's recipient of the award.
