More on the New York trip: At the San Diego airport we saw Murray & Elaine Galinson. At the concert we also saw Devra Brukman and we visited Van Cleef and Arpel's, where we chatted with its vice president, San Diego native Brent Nestor.

Visiting Brentwood, Paul & Penny Arenson attended a meeting of parents of current students and alumni of Barnard College at Lisa & Dustin Hoffman¹s
home. Also present was college president Judith Shapiro. ... Mel & Helen Fraser and daughter Gaby-Ann were visiting here from South Africa to
celebrate parents Rose & Henry Fraser¹s birthdays. Eighty-four and 88 are something to celebrate! Janice & Andrew Barron were happy to see so much of the clan together. ... Also visiting here was Zach Lasker, a 2000 graduate of UCSD. He will graduate from the University of Judaism in May of 2003. He is assistant director of Camp Ramah in Ojai. ... San Diego Hillel director Rabbi Lisa Goldstein was just awarded senior status at Hillel's International Staff Conference in Princeton, N.J. This was told to us by David Newman, program director of the Fiedler Hillel Center at Northwestern University, who visited with us recently.

Sunny & Shirley Demberg, residents since 1952, shared with us that their youngest daughter, Lisa, mother of 3-year-old Olivia, is a TV movie vice
president of Fox Studios. She was executive producer of last month's film, Home Alone IV. It was filmed in South Africa, around Capetown, and Lisa had to fly over often. ... Linda Lingle, who raised some funds in San Diego, has been elected Hawaii¹s first female governor and first Jewish governor! ...
The Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County staged its annual fundraiser, "Gingerbread City 2002: Architecture Through the Ages," at the U.S. Grant
Hotel. Architectural landmarks rendered in edible materials included an Oriental structure called "Who Moved My Chi?" built by our own Warren
Treisman and Kodora Nakamura.

Miriam Bakcht and David Luttbeg became engaged in October in Hawaii. The happy parents are Natan & Racquel Bakcht of La Jolla and Linda & Steve
Luttbeg of San Diego. They plan to be married July 6, 2003. ... San Diego native Ora Greer and Los Angeles native Ahron Duben have become engaged. Ora is the daughter of Pia Greer and sister of Aviva. Her grandparents are Mady & Morry Klein. Ahron¹s parents are Lynn & Jeff Duben and he has a sister, Tracy, of Carlsbad. ... Lea Pollock of Del Mar and Harley Greenberg were married Dec. 22 at Congregation Beth Am in Carmel Valley. Rabbi Arthur Zuckerman officiated. A dinner and dance was held at the Hyatt Regency in La Jolla. ... Andy Freidenberg, the Cinema Society director, and Beth Hall were married Dec. 14 at the San Diego Historical Society Museum. ... Adrianne Shaw and Sol Rubin flew to Las Vegas to be married Dec. 22 by Rabbi Mel Hecht at Temple Beth Am. Adrianne is director of administration at San Diego's Agency for Jewish Education. Cantor Alan Scharf, a friend of hers since her days as executive director at Congregation Beth El, co-officiated at the wedding. Loretta Balduc, Adrianne¹s sister, served as matron of honor and Martin Manrique, a friend of Sol's for more than four decades, was the best man.

Ruth & Marty Weiss' fourth grandchild was born Nov. 9. Nathan Thomas Weiss of Santa Cruz was happily welcomed by San Diego native Roger Weiss and Catherine Corrigan, a native of Skipton, England. Great grandparents are Blanche & Sam Weiss. Rabbi Andrea Weiss, the baby's aunt, officiated at thebrit. ... Carlos & Fanny Wellman of Rancho Del Rey happily announce the birth of Gabriela Nicole on Dec. 21. The baby weighed 8 pounds and 11 ounces and was 21 inches long. Thrilled uncle Jack Maizel reported this news to us. Grandparents are Luis & Sally Maizel and Jane & Larry Wellman. Gabriela was born on the anniversaries of both sets of great grandparents!

Sammy Vana celebrated his bar mitzvah on Dec. 21 with the San Diego community at Temple Beth Sholom in Chula Vista. Sammy and his family are
former San Diegans who now live in Pensacola, Fla. His parents are Irma & Rabbi Israel Vana. Some seen there were Susan & George Kaplan, Mark Smith, Herb & Marlene Greenstein, Dorothy Canter, Marilyn & Al Shelden, Eileen Shelden and Rabbi Michael & Shoshana Manson.
