December 16, 2005—"Jewish Times Columnist Honored," San Diego Jewish Times, page 2: Rabbi Wayne Dosick, Ph.D., was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree by the Jewish Theological Seminary in a convocation in New York on Nov. 17. Dr. Ismar Schorsh, Chancellor of the Seminary, praised Rabbi Dosic for his years of sacred service to the American Jewish community, and read the degree citation, citing Dosick as "a prayer leader and spiritual guide, you are highly adept at creating sacred space for quiet, meditative, supremely joyful and deeply-inspired God-centered worship." The citation continues, "You are the founder and rabbi of the Elijah Minyan of Greater San Diego and an Adjunct Professor at the University of San Diego. You received your PhD from Columbia Pacific University. As an educator, you have taught at every level from preschool through graduate school, developing schools and curricula and creating a wide array of educational programs and experiences, with a particular emphasis on adult learning. In your position at USD, you teach the courses in Jewish studies at this Catholic university, thus furthering Jewish-Catholic relations. As a prolific author, you have written seven books and hundreds of articles. As a social activist, especially in the area of hunger, you have served Mazon in several leadership roles. You began and continue your rabbinate as a passionate advocate for the land and the people of Israel, and for Jews everywhere." Rabbi Dosick has spent more than 30 years in San Diego, where he has served as rabbi of Congregation Beth El, and was founder and rabbi of Congregation Beth Am. He is a contributing editor of the San Diego Jewish Times, which publishes "Rabbinic Insights," his bi-weekly column of religious, political and social commentary. He was an early pioneer in the use of video for religious and educational purposes. He is the award-winning author of seven books.
December 30, 2005—"Kabbalah in Twenty
Minutes," San Diego Jewish Times,
page 13: Beginning on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 7:30 p.m., and continuing for
five weeks, Rabbi Dr. Wayne Dosick and Ellen Kaufman Dosick, MSW will guide a
class entitled "20 Minute Kabbalah: Magical Pathways to God, Your Soul and
Your Heart's Desires." The Dosicks describe the class: The Jewish mystical
tradition—despite its aura of escoteric, shrouded secrecy, and even with its
contemporary celebrity exploitations—is really a quite simple endeavor. It is
an exquisite pathway to connect and communicate with God, and to delve into the
mysteries of the universe and human existence. In this "hands-on"
highly participatory class, Kabbalah is returned to its first and most powerful
purpose, by learning to develop a personal spiritual practice that gives on the
spheric channel to come into deep, intimate relationship with God. Enter into
the holy Presence, talk to God, listen while God speaks, wrestle with the
questions of eternity, find deep soul-satisfaction and inmost happiness and
become a most enlightened Being—all in just 20 minutes a day. The class
will be hosted by Dr. Steve Schechter at Natural Healing Institute in Encinitas.
The registration fee on a sliding scale ranging from $72 to $126, at the choice
of the participant. A commitment to attendance at all six sessions is asked. For
