—1) "Tifereth Israel Sisterhood," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 4: "Mother's Day" was the theme of the May meeting of the Tifereth Israel Sisterhood. Mrs. Abe Ratner, assisted by Mrs. Monroe Levens, arranged an unusual fashion display. Fashions for grandmother, mother and daughter made available through the courtesy of the Sanford Dress Shop and Chenkins Youth Center were previewed. Models were Mesdames Louis Addelson, Harris Rubel, Betty Solomon, Harry Mallen, Morton Thaler, Misses Andrea Beck, Sherry Rae Newman, Elene Gordin and Pauline Ratner. Mesdames Sid Smith, Morris Pomeranz, Lester Cooper, Fred Kaufman, Morris Levenson and Ben Mallen were gracious hostesses.

December 30, 1949—1)"Tifereth Israel Junior League," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 7:  At an enthusiastic and lively meeting held Saturday, December 24th, a Junior Young People's League was organized at Tifereth Israel Synagogue. This group is open to boys and girls of Junior High School age, who desire to participate in a program of social and recreational activities coupled with religious and cultural interests.  Officers elected to lead the young people during the first term are: Cecile Oglesby, President; Geraldine Solomon, Vice-President; David Levens, Secretary; Sherry Newman, Corresponding Secretary and Norman Panish, Treassurer.  Besides the business, games, dancing and refreshments rounded out an enjoyable evening. The group will meet every other Saturday night at 7 p.m., with the next meeting scheduled January 7th. All young people of proper age are cordially welcome.

May 14, 1950—"Tifereth Israel News," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 6: An inspiring ceremony of dignity and beauty will take place in conjunction with the regular Friday evening service at Tifereth Israel Synagogue on Friday, May 12th, at 8:15 p.m. This unusual event will be the Bas Mitzvah of Sherrill Rae Newman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Newman. Sherry has undergone preparation fully equal to that of boys prepared for Bar Mitzvah. She will conduct the entire Friday evening service and chant the Kiddush. She will chant the complete Haftorah (lesson from the Prophets) and the benedictions thereof, according to the traditional cantillation. In addition she will deliver a short address to the Congregation. A reception in honor of this occasion will follow the service, tended by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Newman. Sherry's Bas Mitzvah will be the first one of its kind in the new Synagogue of Tifereth Israel.

1) "Dr. Albert Klug—Shirley Berenson," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 3: On Sunday, August 27, Shirley Ann Berenson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Milo Berenson, became the bride of Dr. Albert Baruch Klug, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Klug, at the Tifereth Israel Synagogue. Rabbi Monroe Levens officiated...Maid of honor was Leonora Klug, sister of the bridegroom. She wore a gown of white nylon net with a full ballerina-length skirt. Her satin shoes were deep violet and she carried a crescent shaped bouquet of deep violet gardenias and delphinium. Attendants Sherrill Rae Newman, Junior Bridesmaid; Arlene Glickman, Carolyn Kobernick and Joan Tavernetti, bridesmaids, were dressed like the maid of honor with shoes and flowers light violet in color. May 25, 1951—1) "Confirmation at Tifereth Israel Scheduled for Sunday, June 10th," Southwestern Jewish Press, page 6: A capacity attendance is expected at the beautiful Confirmation Services for the Class of 5711, which will take place at Tifereth Israel Synagogue on Shavuouth, June 10, at 8 p.m.  Members of the group to be confirmed are: Morton Barancik, Estelle Berwin, Roger Brenes, Stanton Camiel, Frances Gibson, Dorothy Hess, Al Neumann, Sherrill Newman, Cecille Oglesby, Norman Panish, Lawrence Schiller, Robert Meyers and David Levens.  The class will conduct the Festival Service and will present a symposium on the theme, "What is Judaism?" A reception honoring the confirmants will be tendered by their parents following the services. All are cordially invited.

Preceding the dance Sherry Newman gave a "Coketail" Party for many of the couples. About fifty couples were twirling and whirling to the music of Ray Stride's "Starlighters." It was truly a wonderful dance.  Attention! Hear ye, hear ye, by order of Roosevelt Junior High School, Sherry Newman was elected governor. At San Diego High School, Shirley Krasner was elected president of the Associated Student Body, Edie Press was elected president of the Girl's League, Linda Solof was elected secretary of the Junior Class and Harry Slayen was elected cheerleader. Congrats and loads of luck in your jobs. "Wow, what a party!" said Janet Solof at her thirteenth birthday party. Susan Solof, Joan Breitbard, Dorothy Hess, Sherry Newman, Florence Krasner, Gerry Solomon, Sharleen Stone, Rochelle Goodrich, Linda Douglas, Brenda Heiman, Glenda Pollack, Gail Kahn, Sandy Feldman and Charlene Solomon helped Janet celebrate at a delicious dinner.
